What is the best method to obtain employment?

What is the best method to obtain employment? By internet posting jobs, word of mouth, networking or by reading the classifieds help wanteds and calling to make interviews or by going to the Department of Labor and posting jobs and taking classes that way?

What is the best method to obtain employment?
I would say put on something nice, (first impressions still matter) Walk into the place of employment, sell yourself be prepared, and always give eye contact!!!
Reply:Sounds like you have been covering your bases, fairly well. If you are interested in a particular job, keep on bugging them. They will let you know, one way or the other. I was interested in a particular job and stayed sitting in the office about 4 hours or so until the owener came in. I let him know I was very interested in that position. He hired me on the spot. At that time I didn't have anywhere else to go. So I had the time to sit and wait. Perseverance works. And have a positive attitude. It works also. Have a good morning.
Reply:There is no best method to obtaining employment. An employer will want to know your qualifications: how much schooling have you had, what other jobs have you held, why aren't you working now,. So best you get a resume of the experience, what your good points are, the skills you have and how you can fit into the position to be filled. All of the areas you mentioned should be explored when seeking employment.
Reply:i find that asking around gives you a foot up on the competition for a potentially fulfilling position. it doesn't hurt to make connections and utilize them.

What is the salary of an employment specialist?

I interviewed for an employment specialist position in a halfway house and of course one of the questions was what type of salary am I seeking? Suggestions please I stated negotiable but I want to know what is the going salary.

What is the salary of an employment specialist?
On average:

1st year= 33,919

1-4 yrs = 37,338

5-9 yrs=47,136

10-15 yrs=52,045

20+ yrs=56,662
Reply:Guy O gave some really good numbers. However, since the position you're interviewing for is in a non-profit organization, you should expect that they will probably be paying below industry standards.

When it comes to salary, the last thing you want to do is take below your minimum. You have to decide what the number is for you. If they make you an offer that is too low, then you need to decide if it will work for you. If not, then you need to move on and find other opportunities.

Basically, they want to avoid this outcome by asking you ahead of time what your salary range is. So, my recommendation would be for you to give them a truthful number, based on what your minimum needs are. If they move forward without pursuing you, then it wasn't the right opportunity. If that happens, that will obviously be hard. But just think of it this way - they've done a favor for the both of you.

Good luck!

How does an employment agency charge for its services?

I am thinking about starting an employment agency and would like to know how they charge. Do they charge the person who needs an employee or the person who needs employment? How do they know if the person has been employed by the company? Do they just pay for the lead? What is the usual rate? Any info would be appreciated!

How does an employment agency charge for its services?
The employment agency charges the customer. This means the Co looking for an employee.

It charges per hour of "usage" of the employee.

What happens is that the employee is an employee of the employment agency, but not of the customer.

The employee is an asset of the employment agency.

So, let's say you find a company that is loking for an employee.Let's say you have the perfect match.

So you tell the company, and the company accepts.

You charge the company $25 an hour, but you pay your employee $15

If the company decides that wants to keep the employee, you need to negotiate some paymetn from the company, because you are loosing your asset. Maybe 3 or 4 months worth of payments received if they did not keep the employee.

Now, your challenge is that if you don't get paid on time..you still need to pay your employee timely.... So you will need to have some cash available just in case. Not all companies pay timely.

Good luck!

Call me if you need an accountant ;-)
Reply:If you do not know this simple stuff, how can you start a business.

You have to start a business only in a field that you know. For example, if you had worked in a flower shop for 2-3 years, and if you know your stuff, you can start a flower shop. If you worked in a beauty saloon for 2-3 years, you can start a beauty saloon, etc.

But if you do not know ABC of cars, how can you start a car repair shop ?

Charities dedicated to creating jobs and employment opportunities?

Does anyone know of any organizations dedicated to creating jobs and employment opportunities? Not necessarily for disabled people or veterans (although if you have any names of charities dedicated to jobs for those people, that would be equally appreciated), but just any sort of organization committed to creating careers. If possible, it'd be nice to know some names of agencies located in or around Maine or New England-- but, any sort of charity, no matter where the location, will do! Thankyou for your time.

Charities dedicated to creating jobs and employment opportunities?
I'm sure there are others, but at the moment I can only think of the Goodwill.

What is the best temporary employment agency to work for in the United States?

Adecco, Staffing Solutions, Randstad, Office Team? Have you found any of these agencies to be proven helpful in finding permanent gainful employment or to further your career? Or are all these places bogus joints with phoney counselors only looking to serve their clients and not their employees.

What is the best temporary employment agency to work for in the United States?
I currently work for Manpower and they have sent me on great temporary jobs and I've had the option of working permanent for a couple of the companies that I've had assignments with.

Just tell them your salary expectations and what your interests are and they'll call you based on your preferences in jobs.

Can I cancel an employment visa in UAE which shows a different profession that I'm applying w/ no penalties?

I applied as a staff nurse in UAE but in my employment visa my profession that was written is RECEPTIONIST/PATIENT. I feel that this is not right, it should be as a nurse. Can I have this employment visa cancelled so I can take another employment visa with a different employer.

Can I cancel an employment visa in UAE which shows a different profession that I'm applying w/ no penalties?
As per the UAE visa regulations an employ cannot be able to cancel the work visa issued on his/her name. Only the employer/sponsor can able to do this. In your case, if you are not interested to join with the current offer just inform them and go for the other offer. But bear in mind that your new visa application will not be approved till the existing visa has not been cancelled.

I would suggest you to stick with the current offer and you can able to change/ revise your profession according to your designation in due course with your supporting certificates.

What are some suggestions for employment if you have an expired ID and a criminal background?

My husband is an ex military, graduated with honors, but did some stupid things when he got out. It is extremely hard for him to find employment and now his license has been taken away. Any suggestions or references would be greatful.

What are some suggestions for employment if you have an expired ID and a criminal background?
Short-order cook, or a server. Maybe a dish washer or a bus boy. I know a few people that have criminal back grounds and they have worked their way into management positions. Maybe he could work for a landscaper, or get a job on a construction site, or possibly laying concrete. They make OK money, the only thing about that is, it's hard work.
Reply:Some kind of self-employment or work for someone who has fewer than 25 employees (they usually don't do background checks). I hope he learned something. There is a difference between a mistake and willful misconduct. Good luck to him (and you).
Reply:just grow and sell weed, its really easy and inexpensive
Reply:Jewel thief maybe? or perhaps bank robber or the ideal profession for that background would be a politician have him run for office congress needs help.
Reply:The ID is going to be very difficult - with no license, most employers won't consider him due to the fear of transportation reliability. If he has some sort of military ID, that would be helpfu. (Passports are good too.) If he has a criminal background, he will have to disclose it honestly on the form. As you probably know, do NOT falsify the application - most employers will do a criminal background check. If he is honest, and gets to the interview, honesty maybe the best approach. Be open about what it was and the issues. If the issues happened some time ago, this is better than if they happened, for example, last year. Good luck - it will be a difficult journey
Reply:Your hubby will need an ID of some sort. Most states have the ability to provide a state ID that is not related to a driver's license.

Obviously, any job that is related to driving is out. If his "criminal background" is felony related, he will have a harder time getting a job (because he has to admit the felony), but if he shows that he is willing and able to work someone will pick him up.

Have him apply for jobs that are suited to his MOS from the service. Play up the fact that he was in the military and that he has a degree. There is no "real" reason that he can't hold a job like everyone else.

He needs to be diligent and make sure that he follows through on everything that is asked of him. No slacking, calling in sick, etc. until he has a good standing with whomever hires him.

Unless he *has* to admit the criminal background, tell him to stay quiet about it -- especially if it's a misdemeanor. Many times a misdemeanor is not even considered or problematic unless it's mentioned.

Since he is a veteran, have him contact military services about job placement. Even with a criminal background they may be able to assist.

Good Luck, and thank your hubby (from me) for serving our country!

How do you deal with employment rejection?

I didn't get any special training in this area and I know this may sound like a silly question however it is a valid one. Everyone deals with employment rejection differently and I would like to know what works for you.

How do you deal with employment rejection?
i tell myself that this company is looking for SUPERSTART FLUNKYS! yes that is exactly what i call it and that they are not truly looking for hardworkers and genuine people.they are looking for robots
Reply:I look for a job that requires my talents.

I left a job I held for nearly 11 years and found that, while I possess many skills, obtaining a job wasn't one of them. I had to recreate myself, the way I present myself and respond to interviewers. I was rejected many times, but the job I wanted all along said "Yes". The key is knowing your best qualities and being able to have others believe in you too. If you would like me to clarify further, feel free to email me. I hope this helps.
Reply:Go find a job that suites you and that you know you can do without being rejected.

Reply:use it as learning tool for future interviews, and then you give snappy answer on Yahoo,LOL. Seriously it sucks but it is part of the hiring practice, think about the last person you beat out for a job how they felt.
Reply:Although you may have been rejected for the job, try to look at it as a learning experience. Write a brief letter to the potential employer thanking him/her for taking the time to review your resume or for interviewing you. Indicate that it was a great learning experience for you. At the same time, ask the employer if he/she would be so kind as to offer your some constructive feedback as to why you were not considered for the position and ask if he/she has any suggestions that might be helpful to you in the future. Keep it brief and pleasant. Remember that sometimes it is the little things that employers notice. Also, be aware that there are instances where some employers will consider hiring you in the future, so you should try to leave a positive impression. In the end, it is not really about you as an individual. It is about business and the person who an employer believes he will benefit the most from by hiring. Good luck.
Reply:Always apply for multiple jobs, hard to have rejection when your busy preparing for more.
Reply:First, just move on. You can also try to learn something. Ask why you didn't get the job. Did someone give a bad reference? Is it because you are not qualified enough or someone else was better qualified? If they give you some wishy-washy answer maybe it was something else, your appearance, they didn't care for your personality, something you said. Knowing why may give you some tips for the next interview.
Reply:Many of the better jobs have more applicants than openings .

If 10 people apply for 2 jobs , 8 are rejected .

Some is aptitude , skill or experience and some is just luck of the draw .

I did not take it personally because I myself applied for many jobs when I was seeking , so I could not have accepted multiple offers , but it was nothing bad about the company offers I did not accept .

Apply for many jobs to keep a true perspective and do Not take it personal .

How do I break through employment barriers at healthcare corperations?

I have a blog about employment in the healthcare industry. I want to write about how people can get hiring advantages over a typical prospective employee at hospital chains and scientific companies (J%26amp;J, etc). Any tips? For example, how does one contact a specific hiring manager at XYZ corp?

How do I break through employment barriers at healthcare corperations?
ya..to get an advantage.. you need education and experience.
Reply:The quality in highest demand today in health care is EXPERIENCE! Then, education which is probably true for most career fields. Contacting the manager begins with a look up on google. Then, a call to the operator, asking for the name and number of the hiring manager for whatever department of interest. Also, look for recruiters in the company.

How to statistically prove or disprove pattern of employment discrimination?

Suppose a US company employs 100 people, of whom 20 are officers, and the company is located in a major US city with a large racial minority population. Suppose only 1 of the 20 officers is a racial minority. How would the EEOC statistically prove a pattern of employment discrimination? How would the company statistically disprove it? Is there a good online citation for statistical calculations in employment discrimination?

How to statistically prove or disprove pattern of employment discrimination?
It seems you would have to first prove, statistically speaking, that qualified minorities were not considered for officer positions.

If the position required a business degree or some other such speciality and only 1 out of 20 minority applicants for the job had a business degree, that complicates the figures somewhat.

Of course it could be argued that the employer was writing the job requirements in order to exclude certain minorities, too. Tough question
Reply:The statistics that the EEOC looks at and that the accused employer submits, are the statistics of that particular company. In your example of the 1 out of 20 company officers being a certain racial minority, the EEOC would only get this when someone file a complaint. The complaint could be that a person of that race was not promoted to the officer position or that this person was an officer but was demoted/fired due to his/her race.

The EEOC then asks the company to produce personnel records of those who have had, who have applied for, and who have been fired from that officer position --- with a listing of the race of these people. The EEOC investigator also speaks with the company to find out certain things about becoming an officer --- is there a normal career path? is this always an outside hire? and if so is the recruitment done within the guildlines of equality? what are the criteria used for the hiring? The EEOC may ask to speak with former officers of this race and those who select people into the officer position.

The proof of a pattern of employment discrimination is done by looking at all those of this race who have ever worked for this company, their position, and if they were terminated. It takes the EEOC investigator months to wade through this type of evidence.

Many times the EEOC looks at its own history of complaints. For example a factory in Illinois routinely refused to let the women on its assembly line leave the line for bathroom breaks, except for the breaks already assigned. The women were told to use adult diapers and many did. Over a 10+ year time period women filed EEOC complaints on this company. In every case the EEOC did what they could, but in the end told the complainant that the EEOC would not take the case and that they should get their own attorney. After the 10+ years of many complaints the EEOC finally decided to investigate the company and found many more violations and evidence of sexual discrimination -- they found a pattern of sex discrimination. The EEOC then contacted all those women who had filed complaints, but were blown off and included them in a class action. The class action was settled for millions of dollars.

On the company side the company wants to show that both hiring and firing in this position has nothing to do with race. If the initial complaint that started this was due to a termination, the company will bring in supervisors to testify that this employee was not terminated due to race. Many times the company will provide a list of all former employees and their race, who were fired for this same violation.

I think what you are getting at is the company saying that in this town people of this race who are qualified for this position only make up a certain percent of the population. I have never seen the census type of statistics used successfully in an EEOC case.

What is the general level of employment that is below waiting tables?

Isn't there a single level of employment that includes such positions as busing, dish washing, sweeping parking lots, etc. I thought I heard it referred to as general utility work but I'm not sure enough to put it on an application and I am really searching for a job but probably don't have enough formal employment experience to land a job waiting tables. Thanks.

What is the general level of employment that is below waiting tables?
Some people go directly to waiting tables; it's in how you present yourself, your appearance, speech etc. You are asking a restaurant to let you be their representative to their customers, so you need to look neat, speak clearly and be friendly. Saying you have other experience may help, since you know something about how a restaurant works.
Reply:I would just put down bus boy/ girl. They will know what you mean.

Are the employment prospects for the field of graphic design good?

Does this area offer a steady and secure career? Or is it hard to find and keep employment in this area?

Are the employment prospects for the field of graphic design good?
I don't see any problems...remember graphic design doesn't HAVE to be localized to where you are living now (you didn't specify "this area"). I have clients all over the US/Canada (and occasionally some abroad). If is more important that YOU are good in the field. I am an Art Director for a TV station but I've had jobs in other fields...graphic design doesn't mean agency work - you can also work as an in-house designer.

I've never not been able to find work. When I was unemployed I did freelance. I am finding the Hispanic market quite lucrative.
Reply:With an unstable economy in this day, it might be difficult to keep employment in this field at first. I know three people in the graphic design industry who got layed off...but don't feel discouraged. If you stay confident in yourself you'll do just fine. A lot of designers are self employed or freelancing with side jobs. Good luck.

How was the Employment opportunities for women during the second Industrial Revolution?

Employment opportunities for women during the second Industrial Revolution was...

A. changed in quality and quantity with the expansion of the service sector.

B. declined dramatically as prostitution became illegal

C. increased greatly with working-class men pushing their wives to work outside the home.

D. declined hen piece-work was abandoned as inefficient and "sweatshops" were outlawed

E. declined because labor unions forced government to restrict most employment opportunities t men only.

How was the Employment opportunities for women during the second Industrial Revolution?
You can read this:

While Pinchbeck spends most of her time describing the conditions of employment, she does on occasion pause to draw more general conclusions. Her central claim is that, on the whole, the Industrial Revolution made women better off. Initially women suffered from declining employment opportunities, but after the turn of the nineteenth century their prospects improved. Pinchbeck claims that women were better off in 1850 than in 1750 for two reasons. First, many women withdrew from the labor force and were able to enjoy more leisure and higher social standing. Pinchbeck sees the opportunity to specialize in housework as a privilege, and thus she sees withdrawal of some married women from the labor force as an improvement. While Pinchbeck notes that many women lost economic independence, she considers the gains to be large enough to make up for this loss. Noting the withdrawal of farmers' wives from productive employment, she claims, "In the change she sacrificed her former economic independence according to the extent to which she ceased to manage her household and contributed to the wealth of her family, but for her, the new conditions meant an advance in the social scale and did not entail any material hardship" (Pinchbeck, p. 42). For Pinchbeck, the move toward a "family wage," which allowed a man to support a family and allowed wives to withdraw from the labor force, was a clear advance.

The second way in which women were better off in 1850 was in improved working conditions for those women who remained in the labor force. Pinchbeck notes that, while contemporaries thought factory conditions were bad, these conditions were actually better than the conditions in alternative employments in domestic industry. Women entering the factories did not leave behind ideal circumstances, but domestic industries with low pay and poor working conditions. Pinchbeck concludes that "the Industrial Revolution has on the whole proved beneficial to women. It has resulted in greater leisure for women in the home and has relieved them from the drudgery and monotony that characterized much of the hand labour previously performed in connection with industrial work under the domestic system. For the woman workers outside the home it has resulted in better conditions, a greater variety of openings and an improved status" (Pinchbeck, p. http://eh.net/bookreviews/library/burnet...

How does self-employment tax work for Sole Proprietorship?

What happens if you make $20,000 through your full time job, and $0 through self employment? Do you pay $0 for the self employment tax as a self proprietor? Or, do you still have to pay using $20,000 as the total income? Please help me someone. Thanks.

How does self-employment tax work for Sole Proprietorship?
It's like this. If you are employed in such a way that social security and income taxes are withheld from your paycheck, you pay half the social security taxes out of your paycheck, and your employer pays another half of your social security taxes.

Social security is a regressive tax, by the way. It only comes out of income from working, not interest or dividends or anything like that. And once you have made and paid 7.65% social security taxes on $102,000 of your wages, salaries, and tips in 2008, you only have to pay the medicare tax (1.45%) for the rest of the year. So the poor actually pay a larger percentage of their income in social security taxes than the rich do, even though the poor are probably more likely to die before they retire.

If you are self-employed, you are both employer and employee. This means you pay both halves of the social security tax (15.3%) on the money you make from self-employment.

If I remember correctly, you pay that tax on your profit, not on your revenue, so you do get to deduct business expenses before you calculate your self-employment tax. In your example, that would mean that your self-employment tax would be zero, and your social security contribution for the year would come from your job.
Reply:Here's the simple answer, without all the politics:

Yes, yes, no.

You only pay self employment tax on net self-employment income over a certain threshold (I believe the first $400 or 600 or so is SE-tax free).

See IRS Form SE and instructions for more information.

PS: The top 5% of income earners pay 50% of all income taxes, and the top 50% pay 95% of all income taxes in the U.S.

Employment?

I have been in flint, michigan for a little over a year now. Why is it so hard to find a job? If anyone out tthere is from flint, got any advice? I'm getting ready to file for bankruptcy and all my fiance' and his mom do is yell at me to get a job. He has a job, he's the owner of a painting company, and his mom thinks i can just go out and find one no problem. Guess what it's not that easy anymore, that's what i tell her. I've never had any problem like this before, finding employment was always easy for me. Any employers reading this, your missing out on a great worker.

Employment?
Mary, Michigan as a whole is in a bad way. Jobs are not easy to find, especially on the East side of Michigan.

Ford closing, GM layoffs and other smaller companies closing has really put an impact on the job situations.

Check with Manpower, sometimes taking a temp job can lead to full time. Also check with Michigan works. I think the site is Michigan works.org or .com (not sure)

I would go to the Fast Food places, they seem to still be doing well with hiring. Dont expect to get what you want to get paid, take what you can. The fact that any check is better then NONE!

Once you get something, you can look for something more to your taste. However, bankrupt is nothing to blink at. It is serious business and you need to act now.

GL!
Reply:You didn't say what skills you have or what field you're hoping to find work in. That will allow people to give you more accurate answers.
Reply:Take ANYTHING.

You've been unemployed for the whole year? That's a serious gap on your resume. Employers look at that and wonder why you aren't working.

You can always look for something else later.
Reply:Metro detroit area here. All work in Michigan is slowing down, manufacturing in the US has been hit hard and anything in the auto industry has been hit the worst. Flint has been so heavily centered on the auto industry that until it picks up everyone will have a hard time finding a job that will make ends meet. Submit your resume through Michigan Works!, you don't have to be unemployed to submit through them. Ask your mother-in-law-to-be to ask her son if his business has suffered any over the last 2 - 4 years of this slow down. You can also submit through a temp agency, they'll be able to find at least short term things, if not temp-to-perm hire.
