Do you see your employment as a job that pays the bills, or a career that helps define who you are?

If you are career-minded, please also answer the following:

Are you a parent? If so, do you feel that your parenting responsibility carries a greater or lesser portion of your identity than you employment? How does this affect your priorities and performance at work?

Do you see your employment as a job that pays the bills, or a career that helps define who you are?
quite the impact this question.

thank you .

as my child (14 3/4yrs.) sees it ,to me work is most in definition of who or what i am. that brings another dilemma.

she's right and wrong.

as for how i perceive is still a discrepancy debating in it self what priorities are best in fact, most afective in overcomming this very question that may have evolved durring the coarse of no further action than being ,ON TIME!!!
Reply:right now my jobs are just to pay the bills while i'm attending college. i would love to begin my career, but i have to wait until i graduate. i did choose my degree according to how much time i would be able to spend with my family, so i think that my career would only be a supporting factor that makes up my identity.
Reply:It's both, my current employment is a job that pays the bills but is also experience for the career that I want.

I don't see how parent identity is related to work identity...it's apples and oranges. One is private and one is public.

There is some overlapping in the priority sense. Immediate family %26amp; health first, work next.
Reply:My career just pays the bills. I am doing what I have gone to college for but I am a free soul. I don't care what I do right now. I only want to keep building my own business so that I can live the life style of my choice instead of what my boss dicates through raises or lack of or only what the job pays.

I am a parent. My kid's deserve to learn the free enterprize system and learn to not be a slave to a job and attain what they want. In a job we shrink our activities and purchases to match our income. Business owners and the like raise the income to match their desires.
Reply:its to save up money so i can live on my own or with my boyfriend somewhere. its a way to pay for my car loan and college, but mostly to save as long as ican stand my parents, and then move out when the time is right.
