Is it legal for a creditor to request documents proving current employment or is that discrimination?

I was pre-approved for an AMEX card. Called to apply and they put my application in pending status b/c they want me to provide proof of my employment by sending them a recent pay stub along with a letter from my employer corroborating my emolument.

Legal and a smart business practice .

You want their $$$$ , they have every right to determine if you qualify .

If you do not want to provide proof of employment ,

Do Not apply for an account where you will be borrowing Their $$$$$ .

Reply:It is only discrimination if they dont' require everyone to have a job.

Trust me, we all have to show we have the ability to pay.
Reply:Most places ask for your employers name, address and phone number and verify employment themselves. After all you could send them false documents. I would tell them your employer would prefer it if they contacted them.
