Is it bad to apply online for employment?

My husband 7 I have had this on going battle about applying for employment online. He says it looks better if you go in person, if this is so true than why do so many places have online services to apply?

Is it bad to apply online for employment?
apply online but follow up with a phonecall make sure they got it also be careful posting sensitive information like ss# on web
Reply:no its not bad go ahead and apply.....
Reply:Why is this under immigration?

Is your husband a Immigrant? Why so they won't see that he is

a Immigrant? Wouldn't matter, because they will see him once he

gets there.

Applying on line doesn't matter, I've done it a lot. And it saves time. When they call you, with some crap that you really don't want.

Like an ad for Executive Sales, be your own boss and you ask them for the details and you find out that it's sales in selling magazines door to door. Or you call and you find out that you

will be working on commission selling little bobble head dolls.
Reply:Most large employers only accept applications on line thse days.

Paper applications get lost on desks, in files and are very difficult to process.

With on line applications, the employer can search for key words, search on education, search on experience, search on most desired skills and find the best qualified candidates much more quickly.

This is important if they get a LOT of applications. My employer gets over 80,000 applications each year.
Reply:Well how will you know where to go in person? You are correct that most people look on the internet to hire and most job ads don't tell you a place to go in person to apply. Unless you know of somewhere in specific that you can walk in and go apply (such as in retail or a restaurant) you are doing things the right way. Just make sure you have a good resume and send through email. Thats what most employers prefer. Why is this in immigration?
Reply:So far.....I have yet to get a response online. Yet 99% of the people require that. I have gone door to door and asked.....get the same response....apply online. I don't know if they got it....read it...considered it....that's why I don't believe any of it.

I say if a company is truely hiring.....going in person is the best. As far as I'm concerned....this on-line crap is nothing but collecting information.
Reply:no not at all just make sure u know what your applying for so u dont end up with a job u hate
Reply:It is true that it used to be better to go in person before education was a large determining factor and when businesses were smaller. But companies that are very busy do not want to, or have time to, talk to each person that comes in. Apply online is best because it give the employer an opportunity to look at the application to see if the individual is even eligible for the position and to look at their qualifications. This is why a good resume is so important because it is what they will look at first and decide whether they want to interview that person for the position. When a person applies in person they typically dont even have an opportunity to meet the hiring manager or human resource department until after the application is accepted. You are right and you need to explain this to your husband. He will also be able to fill out more applications online than going to each business individually. Good luck with the job hunt.
