I need to investigate past employment for a job applicant. How do I get the true story out of the former?

employers. Most of them want to just give dates of employment.

The dates are a given. But what you should be looking at is the answer to the "Is this person eligible for rehire?" question. That should be your dead give away. Once you get that answer, it should be a done deal- regardless of the answer.

Take the simple yes or no response. If you need more than that, you are pushing the issue and could be crossing the line.
Reply:I kind of hate to say this but there are data bank type companies out there were you can get a load of information about a person but the perspective enployee MUST consent to having employment information diged up!
Reply:sorry. under the stupid federal guidlines, they can't give you much info. Mostly only that the person was employed there, dates, and whether or not they would re hire them. Dumb huh?
Reply:that is all they are legally able to give you,,,and if they would rehire you. thats all you need to know.
