How do you get an employment agency to work with you?

My fiancee has tried getting a job through a few local employment agencies. He fills out their paperwork, and then never hears back from them. He's tried calling them, but no one ever returns his calls. How can we actually get them to help him? Isn't that what they're suppose to do?

I know your pain! I have the exact same problems. However, a little initiative should get you some results. Firstly, he must physically go in there. Hassle them. They get so many phone calls, resumes, emails from job seekers all the time. When they see that he's got a face, and is actually human and not a piece of paper, they will be more likely to pay attention.

Second, he should dress as if he's going to a job interview. They are more likely to refer someone to an employer if they can see that they present themselves well.

Third, make sure that when he's in their office, he tells them exactly what he wants from them and that THEY make arrangements to follow through with it then and there, because, yes, they can be extremely lazy. Hope this helps and good luck!
