I'm going to an employment agency as a last attempt at getting a job. I really don't know what kind of job I want and what kind of job I'm qualified to do. All I got is skills in computer, cleaning, and organization.
Any employment tips are welcome.
What should I expect when going to an employment agency?
That's great. Going to an agency is a good idea and really a breeze. It's just time consuming. I've been to many myself. The people there all want to help you because they get paid when you get paid. Make an appointment and dress nice. They will hand you man forms to fill out including a W-2. Then you will have to watch a workplace safety video for about 15 minutes and take a test on what you learned, so pay attention. Then they will ask you what your interested it doing, and be sure to bring a resume if you can. Tell them your qualifications and any specific companies you want to work for. Chances are they already work with most major companies in your city. Then they will ask you to take a typing test and any other PC software test you feel you know well. You can take free tutorials there any time on any PC program you think will help you get ahead. Then they will make some calls, and possibly set you up with a job before you leave. In times when you're in between jobs with the agency you have to wake up early and call right away to get any jobs that just became available. It's like clocking in. Otherwise they'll for get about you. Good luck.
Reply:The employment agencys offer a wide selection of jobs call a couple and they will tell you what fields they handle. You will be placed in a job thats either temporary or temporary to full time. The company uses the agency to pre screen you because they dont have time so expect a background check, drug test and some even pull your credit. You will get paid by the agency that will pay you based on what the company pays them . Example company pays agency 12.00an hr you might get 10.00 an hr. If the job is a possible full time or permament you will have a period that you will continue to go through the agency and if they like you the company will by out the contract and you will become a employee of said company. The agency can also just move you from job to job. Be sure to ask and try to get a possible full time placement. Good Luck
Reply:Dress professionally and cleanly - remember, you're going in for an interview... the employment agency will be your boss if they find a position for you.
Don't lie - they've been doing this for a long time and can detect inconsistencies fairly quickly.
Don't be in a hurry - if you want them to think you're serious about getting a job, prove it by giving them your undivided attention.
Don't bring friends, kids, etc. if possible - see "Don't be in a hurry."
Turn off your mobile phone, if possible. At the very least, set it to vibrate and don't check it unless you're expecting a call more important than being able to pay the bills.
Bring a resume and references. This will show them that you're serious about getting a job.
