Are online employment offers that ask for my cell phone carrier a ripoff?

I have registered with Monster and Career Builder and keep getting e mails that all look the same asking for my cell phone carrier. I would assume they are a rip off but there is an offer on Hot Jobs that leads you to the same type of site. Some of the offers are very specific in their job descriptions. Are these rip offs? Why would an employment agency ask me who my cell phone carrier is or if I want more info on educational opportunities? I really need a job though.

If you ever feel uncomfortable with a question...then there's probably something wrong.

Why would an employer have to know who your carrier is???
Reply:Registering with these is dangerous because of phishing scams and identity theft. Instead of registering, you should do your research on job openings, but not put your resume online. There is no earthly reason why a legitimate employer would ask who your cell phone carrier is. Be very careful in doing job searches online because most of the listings and people who contact you like this are scams and con jobs. You already got one just posting this question!
Reply:Good observation. You are correct. No one should be asking for cell phone or carrier.
