What maternity rights do i have on a temporary employment contract?

i am on a three month temporary contract in my works and i have found out i am pregnant. do i wait to sign my perminant contract or shall i tell them and will i be quarenteed my employment there?

What maternity rights do i have on a temporary employment contract?
No, don't tell them you are pregnant. If you are on a temp to perm assignment, and they sign you then great! I wouldn't tell them anything. Do you have any insurance? Insurance is the most important thing, job or not, because it costs around $10,000-$14,000 without insurance to have a baby.

Just keep working and if they sign you perm, they can't fire you after finding out you are pregnant. It's against the law in most states. Telling them will probably make them just end your contract after the 3 months, that's legal. Congrats and good luck. KJ
Reply:Do you really need to ask, do the decent thing,

P.s. What does quarenteed mean.
Reply:i wouldn't tell just yet, but if you show then theres really nothing you can do. they'll just know.

but if you get to that point and sign the contract you are not guaranteed your job if you leave for maternity since it sounds like you will be there for less than a year when you are due. with fmla you have to be employed for over a year at the current job and i believe they have to have at a minimum 50 employees. your state may have another law as well. you should check around and see.
Reply:If you are in the UK you will not get employers maternity pay as you have not worked for the company for long enough. If you have worked for about 6months in the last year (roughly) then you should be entitled to a Government maternity pay which is from your NI contributions. You will either get the minimum ammount (which was about £150 per week when I was pregnant a few years back) or 90% of your average earnings.

If you are in the US I have no idea!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:The employer may tell you that you do not have a job. However they may not because of it being a possible lawsuit. That depends on the manager. Depending on how far you are, I wouldn't tell them because you do not have to. I am a manager and I have had women do it to me it is irritating but they always tell you in advance so I am able to hire temporary replacements. It is not really a big deal I just hate loosing emloyees. That is just honesty. However most people don't tell their employers untill they are showing.
Reply:What did the papers you signed say? Didn't you read them? If you are working for a temporary agency then you need to let them know you are pregnant. If you are a "temp to hire" through the company you work for then you need to let them know you are pregnant now...what your rights are is dependant upon the employer's policy which is what you SHOULD have read when you first signed on to that position.
