Most employers want to see 10 years of verifiable employment, so how exactly do you show it? Just give a list of your past employment and they will contact each place to verify? Or do you have to have some type of documentation? Thanks for any help.
How do you show verifiable employment?
From my experience in Retail Management, the employer is looking at that list of "past employment history", to see if you can hold down a job, and for how long. It's about: responsibility tendencies and your attention to detail. If you've forgotten names, addresses and phone numbers of past employers, look them up online or in the phone book. Only list your past job-history, that appies to the job you are currently applying for. List past jobs that you know will be good references for you. You do not need any type of documentation unless specified. Names, addresses, and phone numbers, are sufficient and practical.
If you've held only one or two jobs over the past ten years, it shows the employer that you're not one who jumps around from job to job.
The reason that employers verify your past employment history by making phone calls, is to establish that you're honest, dependable, and a "good-risk-hire".
When an employer looks at your job application, they are not necessarily looking only at your work history .......but at how well you can follow and complete simple directions and answer direct questions, and if you can even spell your own name (so to speak). Employers read between the lines, gathering much more information about the 'type' of employee you will be, than the jobs you have held.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Always fill out a job application in-full. If you have no answer, or the question(s) written do not apply to you --- write "N/A" in that line. Leave nothing blank. Always fill out a job application in black ink ----though not with a black felt-tip pen. Print clearly on your job application. Never fill out a job application at the establishment itself. Take it home and fill it out completely and thoughtfully. Return it to the place of business within TWO days if possible. Hand it to a manager -- never drop it off at 'the counter'. Let them know that you look forward to hearing from them soon. If you do not hear from them within one business week, call them and ask to speak to the manager. Tell him/her who you are, and that you'd like to know when (not if) someone will be contacting you.
Good luck to you.
Reply:They want name of company, address, and phone number. They will also will want the dates worked there, but they are going to check it when they verify so that info is not as important.
Reply:10 years is a bit much. Most companies do not maintian their records for that long.
I would just give them a list with phone numbers and let them start calling.
Reply:They'll usually want to see copies of your last few tax returns.
Reply:The SS office if you really need it
I got mine back to 1975 a few years ago they "May" even do it online
